A job interview is an anxious challenge for everyone.  Whether you are a student looking for a summer, part-time or fulltime job, or an adult trying to find your way back after downsizing the interview will be more productive if you can focus on your preparation, the interview process and the interviewer rather than being distracted by your own tension.

Like trying to fall asleep on a bumpy pillow, anxiety about the interview can take over your mind.  But this CD will help you reduce your own tension and anxiety before and during the interview process.  Although you may not be aware of any muscle tension, if you hear distracting anxious thoughts "in the back of your mind" about the interview, the tension exists.

Early in the 20th century, the Russian psychologist, Pavlov, found he could change a dog's behavior by conditioning.  American psychologists later found humans could condition away many of their own anxieties by combining muscle relaxation and visualization.

This CD packages these skills for use at home.  The first two audio tracks explain how the program works, describe the muscle tensing and relaxing exercises and describe the mental visualization exercises.  Tracks 3-12 each provide one step from preparing a resume to and through the job interview. Please repeat tracks 3-12 five to ten times and visualize each specific step calmly before moving on to the next track or step in the program.

I believe that combining deep relaxation with repeated visualization reroutes thoughts about job interviews from the "emotional part" of the central brain to the "thought-and-plan-processing parts" of the frontal lobes of the brain.  Then you can plan and complete the interview more calmly and be more responsive to the interviewer's questions and comments.

A pretest of how you feel about job interviews follows the comment below.

Comment on the CD: I lost my job when my department downsized.  I thought your CD brought nicely together the relaxation exercises and the visualization of the scenes leading up to and through the interview."
