This compact disc is designed for the 7th grader through adult learner. Many potentially good students become afraid of taking tests in middle-school or junior high or above, become anxious when they are required to take tests in high school or college or must take computerized exams to enter professions.

The program does not provide the content for a test in any specific course. There are many books and CDs which do that. But anxiety about tests often “freezes the mind.” Anxious thoughts about taking tests can block our ability to concentrate on whatever content we may try to read or understand.  With calm, rational responses to the previously-feared situation, we can consciously focus on preparing for tests and take tests more comfortably.

Early in the 20th century, the Russian psychologist, Pavlov, found he could change a dog's behavior by conditioning.  American psychologists later found humans could condition away many of their own anxieties by combining muscle relaxation and visualization.

This CD packages these skills for use at home.  The first two audio tracks explain how the program works, describe the muscle tensing and relaxing exercises and describe the mental visualization exercises.  Tracks 3-12 each provide one step from the classroom to completing the test.  Please repeat tracks 3-12 five to ten times and visualize each specific step calmly before moving on to the next track or step in the program.

I believe that combining deep relaxation with repeated visualization reroutes thoughts about studying for and taking tests from the "emotional part" of the central brain to the "thought-and-plan-processing parts" of the frontal lobes of the brain.  Then you can study more comfortably and concentrate more fully while taking the test.

Comments on the program:  "I had tried to pass my Social Work Licensing Exam six time and narrowly failed each time.  I had been to a "Learning Center" and a hypnotist.  I listened to the CD three times--and passed the exam.  Since then my most tense moments are the kids screaming in the back of the van  Now I am aware that my shoulders are tense, but I know what to do.  I've become aware of tension in other people, too.  I just had a discussion with a co-worker.  His shoulders were so tight they were almost up to the ceiling!"

"My seventeen-year-old daughter ahs always been anxious about tests.  She used the CD before taking the College Entrance Exams.  It helped keep her mind from going blank during the test."

(A High School Teacher): I always have a few students every year, who are plenty bright enough, but have a tough time with tests.  I have been having some of them try your relaxation techniques and they have been having increasing successes.  They also appear to have been more relaxed, happy, and at ease during class time.  Your CDs have also helped me relax and enjoy the day more.  Thanks, Mr. Lohr"

"I was anxious before I took the Securities Licensing Exam and did not pass it.  I used the CD, and while I did not pass the exam this time, it wasn't because of anxiety!"
